Self Storage Make Some Space

British homes are shrinking! According to statistics, new-builds have been steadily getting smaller over the past 30 years and many are unable to provide the storage pace needed to accommodate owners’ needs. This coupled with a rising population means there is a shortage of houses and storage in the UK. Instead of moving many people are converting spaces in their homes formerly used for storage. Spare rooms become offices, and attics and garages have become bedrooms. Because we are becoming a nation of hoarders, and the popularity of TV shows such as hoarders highlight this issue, our possessions are increasingly accumulating in self storage unit such as Cube and can be great extensions of your own home in times when it is a lot cheaper to take out self storage than extend your home or purchase a bigger house.

Come and have a look at our facilities today on site in Uckfield to see how Cube can solve your storage problems. We have units available in a range of sizes and can even offer climate controlled storage for more delicate items and special packing and storage of fine art via our sister company Cube Fine Art Services. Get in contact today for more information and to make some well needed space.

The BIG Spring Clean!

The current frosty weather might be telling you that it’s in fact winter and not spring... but we promise it is nearing the end of March! So in the spirit of spring cleaning it’s time to declutter!

Feng Shui says that unused items collect bad energy and advises decluttering and arranging your possessions in a particular way can improve your life by encouraging a more positive energy flow. Now who are we to argue... here at Cube Self Storage we are all for decluttering so have come up with a few handy tips to help declutter and Feng Shui your homes this sprint... so make way for that positive energy!

  • Seize the day! Stop thinking that you’ll do it tomorrow, make a date in the diary to dedicate to conquering your clutter and stick to it! You will feel so much better once it’s done.
  • Organise your clutter: Make different piles; keep, charity, store, bin etc.
  • Toys: Weed out unused and unloved toys.
  • Tough Love: Be strict with yourself, if you don’t absolutely need it or haven’t worn it in years, then get it out of your house and make way for the items you do love and you do need.
  • Work room by room: There’s no point messing the whole house up, you will need a retreat from the mess, as the room will probably look a lot worse before it looks better.
  • Don’t do it all by yourself: Find a friend to help you, someone who will adopt the tough love motto!

So in future, think twice before you buy something new or welcome something else unneeded into your home! For those items that you really cannot be without store with Cube Self Storage, get in contact today to speak to one of our industry experts to discuss your storage needs.

Packing and Moving Tips

The big day is looming and you cannot put off the packing any longer! But never fear; here at Cube Self Storage we understand that moving can be a stressful time, so we have compiled a list of handy packing and moving tips we think everyone should know!

Ø  First things first… If you fail to prepare then prepare to fail. It will probably take you much longer than you anticipated! So plan early, better to be prepared as on the moving day you will have other things to worry about.

Ø  Large items: These will need to go into your storage unit or van first, and be sure to utilise space in draws and wardrobes.

Ø  Delicate items: Ensure to protect all delicate items appropriately, otherwise you risk damaging your prized possessions. Bubble wrap till your heart’s content on items such as dinner ware and cutlery… but never on fine art!

Ø  Be Organised: Make labels, Cube offers a range of packing materials and labels to help you colour coordinate and organise effectively.

Ø  Beware of the Box: Boxes are usually unreliable; the last thing you want is your contents crashing out of an ill prepared box, check out our sister company Easycrate who have a range of reusable plastic crates to hire. Crates are also stackable so take up less room in transit!

Ø  Take the opportunity to throw out any unwanted items, donate to charity or of course; put into storage for another time.

Calling All Fashionistas!

As I’m sure you do or do not know, we are currently in the midst of London Fashion Week; a chance for all the beautiful people to strut their stuff in expensive labels that most of us have no hope of ever owning. More affordable high street labels such as Topshop and River Island, who showed off their new Rihanna range yesterday, of course feature as well. But it was Mulberry’s Emma Hill with her‘Rule Britannia’ inspired collection that ruled the catwalk yesterday and it is Tom Ford and Burberry who are set to steal the show today. Brands which we tend to look at, take inspiration from, but only buy in our dreams.

The number of people who actually possess the ability to purchase from one of the exquisite collections showcased at London Fashion Week are few and far between. But on that rare occasion that you fall in to some money or luck and find yourself sporting an item of clothing featured in “Vogue Loves,” then it is important that you care for the item to avoid premature aging and damage from wear and tear. Re-wax your Barbour jacket, spray your suede boots with shoe protector spray and store the items which you find yourself no longer wearing with Cube Self Storage.

Our state of the art climate controlled facility protects clothing from heat, cold, dust, mould and humidity by maintaining temperature requirements in parallel with humidity levels. The unit has 24 hour CCTV and is monitored from our reception, so you can be assured that your valuables are not only being preserved but are also in safe hands. Furthermore for this February, we are offering 12 weeks for the price of 6 in our climate controlled facility.

No matter who made your jacket or how much it cost, it will lose its charm and value the moment a moth gets at it and when the colour fades. Our storage facility is perfect for those items that you don’t wear often, but do not want to get rid of. Maybe a fur stole that you’re saving for a special party or a wedding dress that you would like your daughter to wear... Take advantage of our special offer and call us on 0800 027 2668 for more information.

Something Old, Something New

One man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure... you never know what valuables you might have lurking around your home. You can find all sorts of gems in car boot sales and charity shops as people don’t always realise what is now vintage, antique or has come back into fashion again. Old household gadgets are definitely a prime example of this.

Household items easily become outdated, so we upgrade to a newer product. The old version is thrown away to be replaced with the new. Even if it’s still in working order, why would you hang onto something when you can have a newer, sleeker and more technologically advanced version; consumption at its finest. Once deemed “crummy” objects in the light of new technology are often chucked out and so become increasingly rare. A BBC News picture slideshow of ‘the household gadgets of yesterday’ features images of an aluminium hairdryer with a wooden handle, a 1960’s dishwasher, a 1927 monitor-top fridge and a home computer released in 1980. These items now look positively vintage and trendy; thus highlighting the fact that we should hang on to old goods for when they swing back into style again.

Lack of space is usually the reason behind why people bin their valuables. That’s where we can help. Here at Cube Self Storage, we offer bespoke storage to suit your needs. Our room sizes range from a small 25 square foot room, similar to the size of a garden shed, all the way up to a 200 square foot room. Each storage room is individually alarmed and monitored from our reception and there is 24 hour digital CCTV monitoring inside and outside the building, so you can keep peace of mind. Furthermore the room is sealed with your own lock and key so it will be you and you only accessing your precious goods. So don’t needlessly throw away your old gadgets and valuables, store them with Cube. You never know when you may want them back!
