Whether
you are moving home, office or want to store some of your belongings, it is
vital that your items are packed correctly to keep them in perfect condition
during transit and storage.
The Essentials For Packing
Before
you start packing, ensure you have collected all the packing materials you
need. Look carefully at what you are planning to pack; it can be easy to
underestimate the number of boxes you will need so take time to work out how
many boxes you will need.
When
packing your things into storage (or preparing for a move) it is key to have
your essentials ready so that time isn't wasted dashing to the shops for forgotten items.
As well as boxes, you will be likely to need:
- Marker pens (to label your boxes – such a time saver!)
- Bubble wrap (giving extra protection to those delicate items)
- Packaging Tape (stronger than regular tape to keep your boxes sealed. Tape guns are also a worthwhile investment – they are another time saver and make assembling and sealing boxes much easier!)
Time To Pack!
Packing for a house or office move is only temporary, but packing for long term storage is a little different. You will need to choose the right packaging (and pack well) to ensure you stored items will be protected over time.
When it comes to storage, the problem most people encounter is damp due to moisture in the storage environment e.g. attics. When packing items for storing, ensure each item is dry and clean to prevent dampness. At Cube Self Storage, our climate controlled units help reduce moisture.
Storing
Delicate Items
If you are
planning to store delicate items such as glassware and ornaments, line your boxes with bubble wrap for added protection. To protect the individual items you will need
enough bubble wrap to go around each item at least twice. Packing paper will also stop items
rolling around within their boxes during transit.
Special
storage boxes such as wardrobe boxes are ideal for hanging clothing, costumes
or special items such as wedding dresses, and it is always worth protecting
each item of clothing with plastic covers.
Know your
storage
There is
nothing more frustrating than not remembering what you have stored and which
box it is stored in. As you pack each box, record the contents in an inventory
and label each box. This will make locating your items much easier once they
are in storage and will save you searching through each box!
